“Mbaye umuntu” or I am now a human being,” said Mukamutoni, after being fitted with her new prosthesis. BCIEA has distributed and donated over 1,000 Made in Rwanda Knitted Prostheses.

Knitted Knockers
Breast Prosthesis

Made in Rwanda Knitted Knockers are hand-knitted breast prosthesis, made by Rwandan women. These breast prostheses are knitted in a simple way, helping women who have undergone a mastectomy (breast removal) to accept the changes in their bodies and regain their self-confidence after experiencing the loss of a breast.

Knitted Knockers are 100% Free to Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors

Our 30 women who knit these breast prosthesis live on less than $1 a day, so they cannot afford to give them away for free like the volunteers in the United States. BCIEA is seeking partnerships with hospitals, sponsors, private companies, and non-governmental organizations so that women with cancer can receive these breast prosthesis for free.
